What is teledentistry?
Teledentistry lets you talk with a licensed dentist by video instead of coming into the office. You can join from home, work or on the go, using a smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera.
How it works
- Book a video visit online or call (916) 226-6767.
- At your appointment time, join the video call on a device with a camera and a good internet connection.
- The dentist talks with you and your child, looks at the area of concern on camera and recommends next steps, including an office visit if your child needs one.
What can teledentistry do?
A video visit can help with:
- Talking through symptoms and giving a preliminary assessment
- Recommending next steps, including whether your child needs an office visit
- Guidance on at-home care and prevention
What can’t teledentistry do?
Some care has to happen in the office. A video visit cannot:
- Replace a hands-on exam or X-rays
- Provide treatment such as fillings or extractions
- Replace in-person checkups and cleanings
For a dental emergency, call (916) 226-6767 any time. For serious injuries or trouble breathing, call 911.
Why families use video visits
Video visits are easy to join and can save a trip to the office for simple questions, like whether a toothache can wait, how to care for a chipped tooth or what to expect after treatment.
Getting started
Book a video visit online or call (916) 226-6767. A licensed Kids Dentist Plus dentist will give you personalized advice and recommend next steps for your child.

Teledentistry FAQs
What do I need for a video visit?
A smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera and a good internet connection. Join from a quiet, well-lit spot so the dentist can see your child's teeth clearly.
Can the dentist check my child's teeth over video?
The dentist can look at the area of concern on camera, talk through symptoms and give a preliminary assessment. A video visit can't replace a hands-on exam or X-rays, so the dentist will tell you if your child should come into the office.
What questions are a good fit for a video visit?
Simple questions, like whether a toothache can wait, how to care for a chipped tooth or what to expect after treatment. The dentist can also give guidance on at-home care and prevention.
Is a video visit covered by my child's dental plan?
Coverage depends on your child's plan, including Medi-Cal. Call (916) 226-6767 before the visit and we'll help you check.
What if my child has a dental emergency?
